I swear, he was overtaken by his emotions,” Evelyn repeated the words of the doctor, hoping to elicit sympathy from the jury.

Confederate Statue on the Square Sparks Debate

Any given Sunday night, step onto the Square and you might stumble on Willie Hudspeth, stoically protesting the Confederate fountain marking the Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square. The 72-year-old Denton citizen spends every week protesting the monument, spending Sunday nights on the lawn and Tuesday mornings in the Courthouse at County Commissioner’s Court meetings.
